From August 15, Vietnam will issue electronic visas (e-visas) to citizens of all countries and territories around the world.

Under Government Resolution 127/NQ-CP dated August 14, Vietnam’s 13 airports where foreigners may enter and exit the country with e-visas include Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, Cam Ranh, Da Nang, Cat Bi, Can Tho, Phu Quoc, Phu Bai, Van Don, Tho Xuan, Dong Hoi, Phu Cat, and Lien Khuong.

Meanwhile, there will be 16 land border gates and 13 sea border gates accepting e-visas of foreigners.

On the same day, the Government decided to extend the stay period from current 15 days to 45 days for citizens of 13 countries that have been recently given unilateral visa exemption by Vietnam under Resolution 128/NQ-CP, which revises some articles of Resolution 32/NQ-CP of the last year.

The new policy will apply to citizens of Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Belarus, regardless of their passport types or entry purposes, provided they meet all entry conditions specified by Vietnam’s law.

The nation’s new visa policy is designated to implement the Law on Entry and Exit of Vietnamese Citizens and Foreigners’ Entry in, Exit from, Transit through, and Residence in, Vietnam, which was passed by the 15th National Assembly on June 24, at its fifth session.

Under the new Law, which will also take effect on August 15, the validity of e-visas for foreigners will be increased to 90 days from the current 30 days for their multiple entries.

At present, e-visas are granted to citizens from 80 countries by the Vietnam Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security and are valid for single entry.

Notably, the Law provides the responsibility of accommodations establishments for the declaration of temporary residence for their foreign guests.

Specifically, these establishments will have to require their foreign guests to produce passports or international travel documents and papers for their stay in Vietnam for stay declaration.

In case border-guard stations receive stay declarations of foreigners made under treaties to which Vietnam is a contracting party, these stations will have to promptly notify such to public security offices of communes, wards or towns where these foreigners intend to stay in conformity with such treaties.

Agencies receiving stay declarations of foreigners from accommodations establishments in border areas or towns, townships, cities, tourist zones, service areas, special administrative-economic units, and other economic zones related to border areas will have to promptly notify the receipt to border-guard stations where these accommodation establishments are located.-

The target is set out in the Government’s strategy to promote Vietnam’s global image for the 2026–2030 period, with a vision to 2045, approved by the Prime Minister on January 27. The strategy underlines that promoting Vietnam's image abroad is not merely information activities, but a strategic "soft" tool serving the country's development.
