Vietnam has just amended, supplemented the Law on foreigners’ entry into, exit from, transit through and residence in Vietnam. Exit and entry conditions for foreigners are considered as the important regulations.
Conditions to entry into Vietnam
In accordance with clause 11, Article 1 of the Law, foreigners must satisfy the conditions as follows:
- Has a passport or laissez-passer and visa, except for the case of visa exemption.
- Any foreigner that enters Vietnam and is unilaterally granted visa-free entry must have a passport that is still valid for at least 06 months,
- The foreigner is not suspended from entry
Compared with previous regulations, the new Law annuls the regulations that any foreigner that enters Vietnam and is unilaterally granted visa-free entry only allowed to entry into Vietnam when the entry date must be at least 30 days from the previous exit;
Besides, e-visa allowed to use when entry into Vietnam must also satisfy all above conditions and entry via the international border gates appointed by the Government.

Conditions for exit from Vietnam
The conditions for exit are still remain as the regulations in the Law 2014, including:
- The foreigner has a passport/laissez-passer;
- The foreigner has an unexpired temporary residence permit, temporary residence card or permanent residence card;
- The foreigner is not suspended from exit.
In conclusion, the Law 2019 has formally allowed foreigners to entry into and exit from Vietnam by e-visa in certain conditions.
The Law on foreigners’ entry into, exit from, transit through and residence in Vietnam 2019 shall be applicable from July 01, 2020.
